Thunders playing was great when it was great, but he also could be pretty abysmal. I've got a DVD some buddy gave me. His playing is abominable, and he is completely smacked out.
I honestly thought Steve Conte did an awesome job at the live gig I saw.

I also thought the same thing about Stacey Blades who took over the reigns from Tracii Gunns. I thought Blades was just as good or better than Tracii and their new CD proves it.
Even in Richard Hell's obituary to Johnny in, I think Spin magazine, he said that Johnny could be terrible, but when he was on, he blazed, or something to that effect. Johnny was a unique guitarist with his own style and sound, but he was NOT a great guitarist. He was out of key many times, and just downright sloppy, and not always in a "cool" way. But he could be very cool to listen to, and he had style in spades.
But didn't the band reform because of Killer wanting them to, and then they just found that they were having fun with it? Then when he died they just kind of kept going out of respect and because they were enjoying themselves? Out of all the reformations, this one stinks the least of "greed" to me.
It's settled their roots are in the blues.

Not quite. The influence of what was going on in NY and environs was prime. The old schtik about "the blues" being the genesis of everything, that's crap, and Ronald(Syl)Mizrahi knows it!
Original Heavy metal, Brill Building/girl groups, a strong Latin influence, those are also there along with Dave's "bloooozzze". I'm sure Ronald was just being facetious with his silly statement.
It might be great, it might not. Can't wait to find out though.
Anyone know if the movie is available on DVD. Can't find anything about it in France and would love to see it.
